SILICON BODY SUIT - Roxman Gatt

I was commissioned by London based performance Artist Roxman Gatt to make a flesh like body suit made from silicon that she could wear as part of her performance art.

It was important for the work to represent a morphed cross between body armor and flesh, so I made a mould from an ice hockey suit and cast it out in silicon which I painted to look like skin.

As the suit was made in silicon rubber it could wrap around Roxmann’s body much like the original using velcro straps which were sown into the silicon itself.

Animal hair was inserted one by one with a needle to evoke human body hair and give the piece an androgynous feel.
